NCAA Tournament Bracket Set

The 2007 NCAA Tournament bracket is set. 16 teams make up the bracket with four different regions of four teams. The winners of the regionals will meet in St. Louis for the Frozen Four, Arpil 5-7.

Three different teams will have Lightning prospects. Boston College and backup goaltender Joe Pearce are the No. 2 seed in the Northeast region and will face No. 3 seed St. Lawerence. Boston College won the Hockey East tournament.

John Wessbecker and UMass got the No. 4 seed in the East region and will take on No. 1 seed Clarkson, who won the ECAC tournament.

Mike Lundin and Maine, who were on the bubble after losing early in the HEast tourney, got the No. 3 seed in the East region and will face St. Cloud State.

Notable teams that did not make the tournament were Denver, Colorado College, Vermont, and last year's National Champs, Wisconsin. The first round begins next weekend. Bracket

Maine

Looks like Ben Bishop will be back in net for the Black Bears on Friday after missing 4 games. They really missed him.

Slightly OT

But UMASS just dusted off Maine 4 straight yet Maine got the 3rd seed and UMASS was 4th. Not sure how this was possible all things considered.

Avoiding matchups and RPI points.

There is a great deal of factoring when it comes to who gets in the tourney and who doesn't. UMass struggled at the beginning of the season for quality wins while Maine was beating the good teams and losing to the poorer ones. I think the wins versus quality opponents has a pretty high rating with the commitee. You can also argue the fact that Wisconsin didnt get in despite winning the consolation game in the WCHA tournament by beating St. Cloud in overtime. They had a horrible first half of the season but then turned it around and played extremely well down the stretch, but were left out. Dartmouth was also a ranked team that was left out.
