Wessbecker vs. Lundin

Just watched 4-UMass against 1-Clarkson on ESPN-U. UMass, in their first tournament game in their history, won in overtime, 1-0. The goal came on the third shot of a sequence started by a Tim Taylor-esque wraparound. Kevin Jarmin (CLB - 4th round '03)came in late and roofed a rebound.

Wessbecker played reasonably well. He didn't hesitate to join the rush on the outside and got there quickly. Also wasn't shy to shoot from the outside and has a pretty quick and hard wrist shot.

I thought UMass goalie Jonathan Quick, a 3rd round pick of the Kings in 05 who has a goal this year, was outstanding. I wonder if Quick was an option instead of Munce from LA in the Burke "deal." My guess is no.

EDIT: Lundin and Maine beat St. Cloud State 4-1 so Maine will face Wessbecker and UMass.

Tough spot for UMASS

They just beat the Black Bears 4 straight over the last 2 weekends and now face them for the 5th time in 15 days. That is probably unprecedented in NCAA hockey history. That being said can UMASS make it 5 straight over a squad that has such a distinguished pedigree in NCAA tournament play and has their No.1 goalie back from injury ? The puck is dropped at 6:00 Saturday and the viewing options are ESPNU (Ch.609 on DIRECTV) and cable customers can view it on CN8, which is also available online. Let's go MINUTEMEN! (Edit For those with DIRECTV wishing to view this game in its entirety it stars at 6 on CH.626 MASN otherwise it doesn't come on ESPNU or CN8 until the BC-St. Law. game is over and that game starts no earlier than 4:00 so figure to miss at least the 1st period on those channels.)

Chad, as an aside what did you think of the Golden Knights goalie ? Apparently he went undrafted and did set a school record for saves in his career at Clarkson. Scoob in Spfld.
