Weekend QMJHL Wrap-up

After a slow start to their respective seasons, Lightning QMJHL prospects Mark Tobin and Stanislav Lascek had big offensive nights on Sunday as the opening weekend of the 2005-06 QMJHL season came to a close. After dropping a 5-0 decision to Quebec to start the year last Thursday, Tobin and Rimouski came back strong Sunday against Drummondville, winning 6-2. Tobin recorded two goals and an assist in the game to go along with two penalty minutes and a plus-two rating. Tobin’s first goal came five minutes into the second period and proved to be the game winner for Rimouski. He added a power play goal early in the third. L’Oceanic was outshot badly in the game, 48-22. Lascek and Chicoutimi, one of the favorites to go to the Memorial Cup this year, began their season by being shutout, also. Chicoutimi was blanked by Baie-Comeau Saturday night 3-0. Lascek finished with an even rating for the game while adding two penalty minutes and four shots on goal. Considered one of the best pure passers in the league, Lascek notched three assists the next night in a 10-3 blowout of Shawinigan for his first points of the season. He also added a power play goal late in the game to finish the scoring for Chicoutimi. Additionally, Lascek finished plus-one and had six shots on goal while playing next to Maxime Boisclair, who played for the Lightning in Traverse City earlier this month. Lascek assisted on two of Boisclair’s three goals in the game. Boisclair was named the game’s first star. Rimouski and Tobin next play tonight, September 20, against Cape Breton. Chicoutimi is off until Friday, when they play Quebec.
