AHL Game Night 10/5: Admirals at Phantoms

A good third period is hopefully a sign of better things to come.

NOR-3
PHI-4

Karri Ramo had a rough first two periods and ended up allowing 4 goals on 30 shots. Ramo struggled mightily with his rebound control until finally settling down in the final frame.

First Period
PHI Zingoni, (1) (Gauthier), 1:17
PHI Reid, (1) (Matsumoto, Greentree), 9:10 (PP)

Second Period
PHI Matsumoto, (1) (Greentree, Timonen), 3:13 (PP)
NOR Wanvig, (1) , 4:25 (SH)
PHI Reid, (2) (Timonen, Grant), 17:32 (PP)

Third Period
NOR Lawrence, (1) (Jancevski, Milley), 0:36 (SH)
NOR Wanvig, (2) (Fletcher), 18:57

Kyle Wanvig led the charge offensively with a pair of goals while Chris Lawrence had a goal and an assist. Dan Jancevski, Norm Milley, and Justin Fletcher also had assists in the game.

Lines were:
Wanvig/Jones/Kvapil
Keller/Stewart/Milley
Hrdel/Lawrence/Smolenak
Egener/Rosehill

Jancevski/Fletcher
Lampman/Schneider
Leach/Mihalik

Ramo
Munce

Yes, Egener and Rosehill played forward. Taylor, Klinkhammer, Collymore, and Angel were unavailable due to work visa issues.

The top line of Wanvig/Jones/Kvapil played well together and may give Stirling some flexibility once Mathieu Darche returns from Tampa. Darche could move onto the second line with Stewart and Milley and Keller could move down to the third line and, thankfully, move Hrdel out of the lineup.

The team showed a lot of spirit battling back close in the third period and ended the game with a near even 30-29 shot deficit. Philly's game winning goal came after a selfish spearing penalty that got veteran Karl Stewart kicked out of the game. On the resulting power play Darren Reid was the recipient of a fortunate bounce off the end boards and had an open cage to put the nail in the Admirals' coffin.

The good news is Darche may be in the lineup by the Ads' second game next Friday, you know Karri Ramo is going to be better, and some of the young kids like Jones, Kvapil, and Lawrence (to a lesser degree) were active offensively.
