NHL Game Day 12/29: Flyers at Lightning

You know it's bad when the Lightning can't muster a win against the Flyers.

Karri Ramo allowed 4 goals on 22 shots in the game including one on a first period penalty shot. I thought the fourth goal was on Ramo (his first bad goal since being recalled), otherwise he played reasonably well.

First Period
Philadelphia 7:13, Joffrey Lupul 16 (penalty shot)
Tampa Bay 11:44, Vincent Lecavalier 26 (power play) (Martin St. Louis, Brad Richards)

Second Period
Philadelphia 19:04, Mike Knuble 11 (power play) (Jeff Carter, Joffrey Lupul)

Third Period
Philadelphia 0:31, Scott Hartnell 6 (power play) (Braydon Coburn, Joffrey Lupul)
Philadelphia 4:17, Kimmo Timonen 5 (Daniel Briere, R.J. Umberger)
Tampa Bay 8:08, Vaclav Prospal 17 (Doug Janik, Martin St. Louis)

Last season when things were going sour in Edmonton and it was obvious that the Oilers were going to have to move Joffery Lupul I was really hoping the Lightning would make a play for the guy, especially considering they have publicly admitted they would've taken him over Pitkanen in the 2002 Entry Draft had they held onto the #4 pick. Damn he would've looked good on Brad Richards' line.

Here's the good news: that was the first spirited 60 minute effort I've seen from this team since the Calgary debacle, and if they play that way going forward chances are they can turn this thing around. The harder you work the luckier you get.

Mathieu Darche was -1 in 21:04 with 5 shots and 4 hits. I still don't understand how he always manages to wind up a prerequisite -1 every game.

Mike Lundin played 13:37 with 1 shot and 2(!?) hits.
