Lightning/Admirals Make Pair of Deals

The Norfolk Admirals have announced that the Lightning have traded defenseman Dan Jancevski to Dallas in exchange for minor league right winger Junior Lessard. In addition, the Admirals have acquired center Paul Szczechura from the Stars' AHL affiliate, the Iowa Stars, for future considerations.

Lessard, a 27 year old 6'0" 200 lbs forward, has 10 goals and 21 points in 36 games this season with 15 penalty minutes. His career season came in 2005-2006 with Iowa of the AHL when he had 26 goals and 58 points in 66 games.

Szczechura, a 22 year old 5'11" 190 lbs center, has 2 goals and 5 points in 29 games this season. Last year, as an ATO after graduating from Western Michigan, he had 3 goals and 7 points in 14 games. In his senior season in college, Szczechura had 19 goals and 45 points in 37 games.

Norfolk has also announced that they have recalled right wing Marek Kvapil from Mississippi of the ECHL and reassigned left wing/defenseman Mike Egener to Mississippi. Egener has missed 33 games this season with injuries.

An obvious attempt to move

An obvious attempt to move some of the defensive depth in Norfolk to bolster the team's offensive output. Lessard has been a near point-per-gamer for Iowa for the last couple of seasons. Seems like Loiselle is trying to address some of the goal scoring issues.

Egener looks like he's on a conditioning assignment to Mississippi get back into game shape. Here's Kvapil's chance to make a splash. The Ads need some goal scoring.

This might be do or die time

This might be do or die time for Kvapil. His contract's up at the end of the year, and right now I'd put the odds at 60/40 he's going back to Europe.

A Good Trade

Jancevski had been more of an offensive presence the last few games. But you guys are right, we are overloaded with dmen in Norfolk. In fact two dmen, Scalzo and Rosehill are at the forward slots right now. But Jancevski was a class guy and I sincerely wish him well.

But, there is no question of the lack of offense in Norfolk right now, as illustrated above with 2 dmen playing up front. So, this trade had to be made to help in the area of most need. And to get value, you must give value. Lessard does bring a scoring touch and Szczechura is a center, a position we are short in.

I posted a link to an interview given by Claude Loiselle to the Newport News paper in which he stated he was not happy with the state of affairs and was working the phones to try and come up with a trade that would help us. Mr. Loiselle, you are a man of your word. It at least shows the organization is trying to address the situation, for which I am thankful.
