N.A. Juniors Game Night: 3/4

QMJHL
St. John Sea Dogs 1 @ Lewiston MAINEiacs 3
D Michael Ward, LEW: 0-1-1, +1, 2 PIM, 1 shot on goal

Lewiston, the defending QMJHL champions, is holding down the fifth seed right now in the Eastern Division, but is just two points out of third and seven points out of first with five games left. They have clinched a playoff spot.

WHL
Everett Silvertips 5 @ Tri-City Americans 2
D Dane Crowley, EVT: 0-1-1, +3, 0 PIM

Seattle Thunderbirds 5 @ Prince George Cougars 1
G Riku Helenius, SEA: Made 1 save on 1 shot in 3:50 of work.
C/W Dana Tyrell, PG: 0-1-1, E, 0 PIM, *Third Star*

Jacob DeSerras started for the T-Birds but left late in the third period. Helenius finished the game and is expected to start tonight (Wednesday) in a rematch with PG. Seattle is currently two points ahead of Everett for the Western Conference’s fourth seed. The WHL is using a new playoff format this year, where the division winners (2) in each conference automatically get the top two conference seeds and the rest fall in line in a traditional format. Previously teams would play within their own division during the first round (1-4, 2-3).

An example of some WHL craziness from this game (per Jim Swanson of the Prince George Citizen): “(Prince George goaltender Real) Cyr stopped the (Holloway) shot, but slid into the net, across the line, and after a lengthy discussion involving the four on-ice officials and the goal judge, it was correctly ruled a goal. Interesting that the third period was played without a goal judge at that end -- the story is the original goal judge walked away because he disagreed with the referees' decision. A child sat in his chair for part of the period, but no one sat in the seat for the final 15 minutes.”
