NHL Game Night 3/6: Lightning at Flyers

Another tough late loss.

Mike Smith allowed 3 goals on 25 shots for the loss. Who does Karri Ramo have to bribe to get a start?

First Period
Tampa Bay 0:31, Jussi Jokinen 15 (Martin St. Louis, Dan Boyle)
Philadelphia 14:51, Daniel Briere 23 (R.J. Umberger)
Philadelphia 16:40, Jeff Carter 24 (unassisted)

Second Period
Tampa Bay 8:18, Michel Ouellet 11 (Jussi Jokinen, Doug Janik)

Third Period
Philadelphia 18:06, Jeff Carter 25 (Sami Kapanen, Kimmo Timonen)

Jussi Jokinen had 1 goal and 1 assist in the game and Michel Ouellet continued his streak of good production of late with a goal. That's the good news. If the Lightning can get that one more bluechip offensive player (Stamkos please), these complimentary pieces are looking like they might be ready to step up and chip in offensively.

Is it just me or is Jussi's skating somewhat Prospal-esk?? Well, maybe not that bad but I was hoping he would be a little quicker.

I know the team's motto has always been 'we aquire big-mobile-dmen and that is what we do' but you would think some of that whole 'mobile' thing would rub-off when it comes to the forwards.

Oh, and did anyone see where Cristidero said the Ducks were offing Bryz up for a 5th or 6th round pick - hell we gave a 4th rounder for a guy named Ryan Munce(a top nominee for the lifetime ECHLer award).Wow talk about asset management. I hope Jay doesnt plan on being a financial planner in the next life..........

I saw something about that... but also that ownership wouldn't let him add the salary.

Perhaps he could have moved some salary out earlier than the deadline, but that's got to be tough to know there's help available for very cheap (asset wise) but your bosses won't let you do it. Of course, there are/were plenty of reasons why TB was in that position in the first place.

Jussi Jokinen

Jussi Jokinen isn't that bad of skater, according to scouting reports "He has a very good shot and very good hands. He also has underated playmaking abilities. He is an excellent skater and is strong on the puck." I think what's making him look slow is he isn't really skating hard when forechecking for some reason, he's kinda gliding on the forecheck. When he has the puck he seems to skate harder. He never seems to get behind when backchecking like Prospal did, and in videos on You Tube of his shootout moves he looks pretty fast.

Bear in mind the Munce deal

Bear in mind the Munce deal might have been tied to Burke being claimed on re-entry waivers.
