NCAA Game Night: 12/16

Art Femenella was a +1 with 2 PIM in #13 Vermont's 4-0 win over St. Lawrence.

The Catamounts are 10-5-1 overall and 6-2-1 in the HEAST. Vermont now prepares for the Sheraton/Bank North Classic Catamount Cup in two weeks. They open the tournament against Rensselaer.

Mike Lundin had an assist in #3 Maine's 1-1 tie with Mercyhurst. The Senior now has six assists on the season.

CHL Game Night: 12/16

Kevin Beech stopped 27 of 28 shots for the win in Sudbury's 5-1 victory over Peterborough. Beech is now 14-12-1-2 with a 3.12 GAA and has pulled his save percentage up to .899 for the season.

Marek Bartanus is still with Team Slovakia preparing for the WJCs as Windsor clipped Owen Sound 4-3 in overtime.

Dane Crowley was out of the lineup today for Swift Current as the Broncos fell to Saskatton 5-4 in a shootout.

Vladimir Mihalik is still with Team Slovakia preparing for the WJCs as Prince George trails Kamloops 3-1 in the second period.

NHL Game Night 12/16: Hurricanes at Lightning

Someone pass me a bucket.

CAR-3
TB-2

Marc Denis stopped 24 of 27 shots faced as the Lightning continue to find new and creative ways to waste opportunities to get points and slide further and further under .500. Ryan Craig had 1 goal and 1 assist in the game while Martin St. Louis scored the other Lightning goal. Individual helpers belonged to Brad Richards, Vaclav Prospal and Eric Perrin.

I'm at a loss for words at this point. When the goaltending plays well, the offense breaks down. When the offense plays well the defense breaks down. And when this team gets in a one goal game, it seems incapable of making that one critical play it needs to stay out of the loss column. How does a team that has won so many games over the past two seasons forget how to do the little things that will put them over the top in a close game?

Don't look now, but the Panthers are just 2 points behind in the standings. Good grief.

AHL Game Night 12/16: N.Admirals at Falcons

Test failed.

NOR-5
SPR-2

Karri Ramo, who lost his mojo somewhere on the flight between Ottawa and Springfield after his brief recall to the Lightning, stopped just 15 of 20 shots faced. Norm Milley and Andy Delmore had garbage time goals for the birds with helpers belonging to Eric Healey, Daniel Corso and Randy Rowe. The one positive to take from the game is that the Falcons did outshoot Norfolk a commanding 39-20, so they're edging closer to being ready for primetime. Still, if Norfolk is a good measuring stick for the team's progress, they have some work yet to do. Tomorrow is an even more critical divisional game, however, as the Falcons face the Atlantic Division topping Portland Pirates whom the birds trail by just 4 points in the standings now. I would expect the hot hand, Jonathan Boutin, to be in net for that key matchup.

First Period
NOR Bochenski, (19) (St. Pierre, Brouwer), 0:14
NOR Burish, (2) (Low, Hendry), 2:36

ECHL Game Night 12/16: Cyclones at Chiefs

1-0-1 against Cincinnati this weekend is pretty good considering how badly the Cyclones outplayed Johnstown.

CIN-2
JHN-3 (OT)

Gerald Coleman stopped 10 of 10 shots he faced in the first period before leaving the game with 13 seconds left in the frame with what is being categorized as a "lower body injury". Morgan Cey entered the game and stopped 25 of 27 the rest of the way for the win. Adam Henrich led the way with 1 goal and 1 assist including the game winning overtime talley. Radek Smolenak and Doug Andress had the other Chiefs goals with individual helpers belonging to Andre Deveaux, Jean Desrochers, Ian MacLean and Geoff Waugh. Henrich now has 6 goals and 16 points in 14 games this season as he battles to earn a new contract for next season. He and Smolenak were first and second stars of the game, respectively.
