Lightning Prospects Drop Opener

According to newyorkrangers.com, the Lightning's prospects opened their 2007 Traverse City Prospects Tournament with a third period collapse resulting in a 6-4 loss to the Rangers.

The teams were tied at one entering the second period and the Bolts had fought back from 2-1 and 3-2 deficits to tie the game at three entering the third. The Rangers got three quick goals to start the third to put the game away, including one that was reportedly a Lightning own-goal.

Radek Smolenak, who was an offensive force for Tampa Bay last year in Traverse City, scored the Lightning's first two goals unassisted. He also had a helper on the Bolts' final tally.

Free agent invitee Colton Yellow Horn, a 40 goal scorer with Tri City of the WHL last season, had the third Lightning goal, with assists going to defensemen Justin Fletcher, Vladimir Mihalik and Mike Lundin. Another free agent invitee, Rob Klinkhammer of the Brandon Wheat Kings, notched the final goal for Tampa Bay late in the final period to give the game its final score.

Riku Helenius had 25 saves for the Bolts, who were outshot 31-25 and had four first period power plays.

The Lightning are back in action tomorrow night against the Red Wings.

Two Added to Admirals Camp Roster

According to Erik Erlendsson's blog, the Norfolk Admirals have added centers Justin Taylor and Shawn Collymore to their camp roster. Not much to see there. Erlendsson also writes that speculation that Riku Helenius is a shoo in to appear in Lightning camp are false and that he is slated to return to Seattle of the WHL immediately after the Traverse City tournament.

Harju Strikes Twice in Preseason Tilt

Just a little taste of Swedish preseason action:

Lightning prospect Johan Harju had a pair of goals today in Lulea's 3-2 victory over Skelleftea. Former Lightning captain Mikael Renberg had a goal in the match for SAIK.

Thursday's Superleague Scores

Until the Superleague's statistics website gets fixed, these unofficial results from Dynamo's website will have to do:

Anton But had 2 penalty minutes for St. Petersburg in their 4-3 win over Magnitogorsk.

Alexei Glukhov was scoreless in Cherepovets' 3-2 win over Novosibirsk.

Evgeny Artyukhin had 2 penalty minutes in Omsk's 4-3 overtime win against Tver.

Despite a goal and 2 penalty minutes from Albert Vishnyakov, Spartak fell to Dynamo 2-1 in a shootout.

Vasily Koshechkin got his first win of the season to even his record at 1-1-0 as Kazan handled Chekhov 3-1. Dimitri Kazionov was scoreless in the match for Ak Bars.

Crowley Aiming to be an Admiral

As the countdown to the start of the 2007 Traverse City (TC) Prospects Tournament finally comes to an end tomorrow, the future is now for many of the prospects making up the Lightning’s 2007 TC squad.
