Game Night 11/5: Falcons at Bears

To go into Wilkes-Barrie/Scranton and Hershey on back to back nights and steal 3 out of 4 points is outstanding. Period. SPR-2 HER-3 (SO) Jonathan Boutin stopped 50 of 52 shots faced. 50 saves in his AHL debut. That's not a typo. And he had an assist on top of that. That's not a typo either. Rightfully he earned #1 star of the game even in a shootout defeat. It's a shame he couldn't make that one more save late in the 3rd period or that the Falcons' final three shooters in the shootout couldn't get that one more talley for the rookie. The irony is that if this game was played under the NHL's shootout rules, Boutin wins. Ryan Vesce was outstanding again with two goals in regulation and he scored in the shootout for Springfield as well. The rookie now has 4 goals and 10 points in 10 games and it may well be time for the Lightning to consider purchasing his contract from the Falcons and making him officially a member of the Lightning family. Just my opinion. Game sheet can be found at TheAHL.com.

Back Up and Running

I apologize to all who tried to access the site over the last 36 hours while we were down. Last I heard from Tim, we were having some hardware issues in Bolt Prospects Tower, Nashville. So what'd we miss in the mean time? -The Lightning took a road loss in Ottawa 4-2 in a game where I thought they played a decent road game for 45 minutes only to come unraveled at the end. -Zbynek Hrdel was recalled by the Falcons from Johnstown after Adam Henrich was benched for two periods in Springfield's Wednesday victory over Albany. In other news from Johnstown, Mike Egener was slated to play in Friday's game against Trenton after leaving the previous game against Toledo with an undisclosed injury. -Vasily Koshechkin notched another shutout Friday with a 2-0 victory over Dynamo, his 6th of the season. The shutout was Koshechkin's 6th in 9 games and improved his record to 7-2-1 since becoming the starter for Lada Togliatti. -Springfield defeated Wilkes-Barrie/Scranton 4-3 on the strength of a Doug O'Brien overtime winning goal. Marek Kvapil had 2 assists in the contest and Gerald Coleman stopped 37 of 40 for the win. -The Johnstown Chiefs are still looking for their first victory of the season after dropping a shootout loss in Trenton 3-2.

Norrena Records 10th Win of the Season

Linkopings ran roughshod today defeating Leksands 5-2. Fredrik Norrena stopped 23 of 25 shots faced for the victory. The win runs his record to 10-3-2 on the season. Linkopings is currently 3rd in the Elitserien 5 points behind first place HV 71.

Game Night 11/2: Falcons at River Rats

Blogging this one live via B2 Networks. It will be my first time to see Coleman this season. Tonight's starting lineup for the Falcons: Fritz/Jaspers/Craig O'Brien/H.Pratt Coleman Henrik Bergfors' brother Nicklas is starting for Albany. SPR-4 ALB-3 (3rd Period)

The Ugliest Score in Hockey: Part Two

Given that both netminders have led the Russian Superleague in every statistical category over the past month, maybe it isn't surprising Vasily Koshechkin and Travis Scott's showdown today in Magnitogorsk ended the way it did. Lada and Metallurg battled to a 0-0 tie as Vasily Koshechkin secured his 5th shutout in his last 8 starts. His record is now 6-2-1 for the season. Meanwhile, in Omsk, Anton But snapped out of a slump with a huge third period as he notched 3 helpers as Lokomotiv trounced Avangard 5-1.
