Swiss NLA Season Begins

This weekend the Swiss NLA schedule began. The Lightning are well represented in Switzerland with overage prospects Eero Somervuori and Eric Perrin as well as veteran Shane Willis. Friday, Eric Perrin assisted on the opening goal of the season for SC Bern in a 6-3 victory over Lugano. Saturday, Eero Somervuori notched his first goal of the season for Ambri-Piotta as they fell 8-4 to Geneve-Serette HC.

Polushin Strikes Twice in Cherepovets Victory

With two goals Monday, Lightning prospect Alexander Polushin lifted his club Severstal Cherepovets to a 4-2 victory over Sibir Novosibirsk. The 2001 draft choice scored Severstal's second goal late in the 2nd period and capped the game's scoring with an empty net goal with 1:02 left in the match. Through 3 games Polushin now has 2 goals, 1 assist and 3 points. In other action Monday, Anton But scored a goal and added an assist in Yaroslavl's 5-4 victory over CSKA. But and Polushin now sit tied for the lead in scoring amongst all Lightning Russian prospects.

Vishnyakov Off to Hot Start

Lightning prospect Albert Vishnyakov is off to a hot start grabbing the very early lead amongst the club's Russian based prospects in scoring. On Friday, Vishnyakov scored the second goal for Superleague power Dynamo in their 7-1 domination over freshly promoted Vityaz. Also, Dimitry Kazionov assisted on the game winning goal in Togliatti's 2-1 victory over Salavat Yulayev.

Darby Traded

TSN Canada is reporting [url=http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/news_story.asp?ID=135785]veteran center Craig Darby has been traded to the Vancouver Canucks for future considerations.[/url] The 31 year old's departure should allow greater playing time for newly signed Ryan Vesce. The deal also opens a veteran spot in Springfield which might be filled by Harlan Pratt, who has been invited the Lightning camp on a tryout basis.
