The Tampa Bay Lightning in conjunction with the Springfield Falcons have signed 34 year old veteran defenseman Brad Tiley.
The 6'1" 199 lb. native of Ontario has spent the last two seasons with the Milwaukee Admirals of the AHL compiling 21 goals and 72 points over that period. Known as an expert power play quarterback at the minor league level, Tiley's career year came in '99-'00 with the Falcons when he put up 44 points from the Falcons' backline and was named to the AHL All-Star team and was named the league's best defenseman. Locals of the Tampa Bay area may remember Tiley from his one year stint with the Orlando Solar Bears of the IHL in '95-'96 when he notched 11 goals and added 23 assists for 34 points in 69 games.
Tiley joins returning veterans Craig Darby, Jim Campbell and Jason Jaspers as well as new acquisition Norm Milley to add veteran leadership to a Springfield club which last year was amongst the youngest in the league. Tiley will be asked to give veteran mentorship to the Lightning's young blueline prospects, in particular, offensive defenseman prospects like Paul Ranger and Gerard Dicaire . The Falcons' first regular season game is slated for October 8th on the road against the Hartford Wolfpack.
