Sudbury goaltender Kevin Beech [3] allowed a total of 6 goals on 27 shots as the Wolves fell to 0-3 after a 9-3 loss to Barrie Thursday night. Beech started the game for Sudbury, but was pulled 17 minutes into the first period after giving up 4 goals on 13 shots. After backup Chris Abbey allowed his third goal a minute into the third period, Beech returned to the ice to allow 2 more goals on 14 shots. Beech is now 0-3 with a 5.77 goals against average and an .828 save percentage. Wolves coach/GM Mike Foligno told the Sudbury Star, “I felt we needed better goaltending tonight and we just didn’t get it. That's real unfortunate.â€
In other action Wednesday and Thursday…
Kingston winger Radek Smolenak [4] excelled for the Frontenacs in a 7-5 win over Bellville Wednesday night. Smolenak had two goals and an assist in the game and was named the contest’s first star. He also had two penalty minutes and a plus-three rating.
Rimouski winger Mark Tobin [5] had a fighting major penalty and an even rating for L’Oceanic as Rimouski dropped a 3-1 decision to Cape Breton Wednesday. Tobin is now scoreless in his last three games and has only registered points in one of Rimouski’s five games this year, a two-goal, one assist showing against Drummondville.
Finally, Chris Lawrence [6] notched an assist for Sault Ste. Marie as the Greyhounds downed the Windsor Spitfires 6-4 Thursday night. Lawrence also registered a plus-two rating and earned two separate minor penalties for charging.
