Game stars galore ... and unfortunately, slumps, too.
USHL
Fargo Force 1 @ Lincoln Stars 4
D Luke Witkowski [15], FAR: 0-0-0,-1, 2 PIM (hooking) 1 SOG
Season totals: 6 GP, 1-1-2, +1, 28 PIM
QMJHL
Halifax Mooseheads 2 @ Moncton Wildcats 6
D Mark Barberio [16], MON: 0-0-0, +1, 0 PIM, 2 SOG
Season totals: 16 GP, 4-11-15, +10, 8 PIM
Rimouski Oceanic 4 @ Baie-Comeau Drakkar 3 (SO)
W/C Luca Cunti [17], RIM: 0-0-0, -1, 0 PIM, 1 SOG
Season totals: 16 GP, 3-9-12, -4, 12 PIM
Cunti, who started the year with a bang, is officially in a slump now. He was not chosen to participate in the shootout, also.
Lewiston MAINEiacs 5 @ Acadie-Bathurst Titan 3
D Michael Ward [18], LEW: 1-0-1, +1, 2 PIM, 5 SOG
Season totals: 16 GP, 2-6-8, -1, 22 PIM
OHL
Brampton Battalion 4 @ Peterborough Petes 3 (SO)
W Kyle DeCoste [19], BRA: 0-0-0, E, 0 PIM
Season totals: DeCoste: 13 GP, 3-2-5, -4, 17 PIM
Speaking of slumps, DeCoste has not registered a point in eight of his last nine games.
WHL
Lethbridge Hurricanes 3 @ Kelowna Rockets 4
C Mitch Fadden [20], LET: 0-0-0, E, 2 PIM (slashing)
Season totals: 9 GP, 2-3-5, +2, 2 PIM
Kelowna won the battle of teams that didn’t want Torrie Jung [21]. At least statistically, Fadden seems to be falling into that category of junior stars who return to the junior ranks after not landing a pro contract and play uninspired/disappointed hockey. Hopefully he turns it around soon. Kris Lazaruk, the goaltender acquired by Kelowna to replace Jung, has himself been replaced as rookie Adam Brown has taken over as the Rockets’ No.1. He’s 6-0 with two shutouts thus far (1.55, .911).
Edmonton Oil Kings 3 @ Everett Silvertips 1
G Torrie Jung [21], EDM: Win, 30 saves, *Second Star*
Season totals: 4 GP, 3-0-0-1, 1.47 GAA, .952 sv%, 1 shutout
Meanwhile, Jung remains undefeated and if he had the required games played, would be leading the league in save percentage and be second in GAA.
Kootenay Ice 1 @ Spokane Chiefs 5
G Dustin Tokarski [22], SPO: Win, 35 saves, *Second Star*
Season totals: 14 GP, 9-3-0-2, 1.55 GAA, .951 sv%, 3 shutouts
Tokarski is tied for second in the WHL in GAA and is first in save percentage. The next highest (official) save percentage is .937.
Kamloops Blazers 2 @ Prince George Cougars 7
C/W Dana Tyrell [23], PG: 1-3-4, +1, 0 PIM, *Third Star*
Season totals: 16 GP, 14-9-23, -14, 17 PIM
All three of Tyrell’s assists came on the power play. Tyrell (pictured) is now tied for 10th in the WHL in points; second in goals. Aside from a horrific plus/minus, the Cougars' captain is playing like he wants an NHL contract next spring.
Brandon Wheat Kings 3 @ Vancouver Giants 4
C James Wright [24], VAN: 0-0-0, -1, 0 PIM
Season totals: 15 GP, 7-8-15, +12, 6 PIM
Wright had 10 points in his first six games. He has five in his last nine. Vancouver still hasn’t lost in regulation (12-0-0-3).
