Florida blew a 2-0 first period lead, but rebounded to top the visiting Stingrays, 4-3. Lightning prospect Sebastien Piche (pictured), acquired from the Red Wings in the Kyle Quincey/Steve Downie trade, scored his first goal as a member of the Lightning organization. His second period marker gave the ‘Blades a brief 3-2 lead. Bolt prospect Charles Landry notched his first point in 11 games with the primary assist on Piche’s first ECHL goal of the year. Piche had 12 goals last year for ECHL Toledo while with the Red Wings organization. Piche returned on Wednesday from a suspension for a boarding major. Former Lightning draftee Kevin Quick, who is now on an AHL contract with Norfolk, was scoreless for the eighth straight game. Goaltender Pat Nagle was back with the Everblades after spending a couple weeks with AHL Norfolk while Admirals goaltender Dustin Tokarski was with NHL Tampa Bay.
With the win, Florida tied South Carolina for third in the South Division standings, but more importantly tied them for sixth in the Eastern Conference standings at 77 points. Wheeling sits just ahead at 78 points. Florida is 8-2 in their last 10 games and now has an eight point cushion on ninth place Reading and Chicago. There are five games left in the regular season.
