Ontario Hockey League
Oshawa Generals 3 @ Peterborough Petes 2
D Slater Koekkoek , PBO: 1-0-1, -2, 0 PIM
Season totals: 26 GP, 4-16-20, -21, 20 PIM
Slater Koekkoek scored his fourth goal of the season late in the game to cut Oshawa’s lead to 3-2, but the Petes couldn’t complete the comeback. With his 20th point of the season, Koekkoek is approaching his career high of 23, set two years ago in 65 games. He has already matched his career high for assists at 16, also set two years ago. Unfortunately, he is also approaching his career “low” of minus-29, which was also set in his rookie season. Koekkoek’s minus-21 rating is the lowest its been all season. He is two ratings points ahead of Belleville’s Jake Cardwell for last in the league. The closest player to him on the Petes is Francis Menard at minus-15. Peterborough has lost five games in a row and nine of their last 10.
As team captain and arguably its top player, Koekkoek plays a ton of minutes on a team that’s last in the league in points and second-last in goals scored. That’s a recipe for a plus/minus disaster. It's highly unlikely that Lightning GM Steve Yzerman is even remotely worried about his top pick in 2012.
