Prospects

QMJHL

Stanislav Lascek had his 42nd and 43rd goals of the season and was named first star of the game in Chicoutimi's 4-1 win against high powered Quebec.

OHL

Radek Smolenak scored a hat trick, his 40th, 41st and 42nd goals of the season, and added two assists easily earning first star honors in Kingston's 6-4 win over Toronto.

Kevin Beech stopped 27 of 29 shots faced but still saw his Sudbury Wolves fall 2-0 to Mississauga. Chris Lawrence was held scoreless in the game for the Ice Dogs.

WHL

Justin Keller had his 48th and 49th goals of the season and two helpers as Kelowna beat Everett 6-2.

Zdenek Blatny angling for a callup?

Gerald Coleman stopped 37 of 40 before stopping 4 of 5 in penalty shots for the victory. Zdenek Blatny stayed white hot scoring a goal and adding two assists as well as scoring to open the shootout session. He was named first star of the game. Prospect Mike Egener emerged from the doghouse to score the Falcons' third goal and Norm Milley and Doug O'Brien had helpers in the game. Ryan Vesce, who also recorded an assist in regulation, scored the winning shootout goal.

Game Day 3/12: Nailers at Chiefs

Morgan Cey is quietly setting the world on fire down in Johnstown.

Morgan Cey stopped all 50 shots he faced to record the shutout. Thanks to Cey, Randy Rowe's first period power play goal on assists from Adam Henrich and JB Bittner was all Johnstown needed to get the W. The shutout was Cey's third of the season.

Game Night 3/11: Nailers at Chiefs

Heck of a comeback just to get the point.

Johnstown scored 4 unanswered goals including Justin Kelly's capping penalty shot goal with under a minute left just to get this game to overtime. Mike Betz, who I will refer to from here on out as "the sacrificial lamb" stopped just 26 of 33 shots faced.

Kelly paced the Chiefs with 2 goals, one of them shorthanded, while Dimitri Tarabrin had 1 goal and 1 assist. Adam Henrich had his 13th goal of the ECHL season in the third period comeback and John Toffey chipped in a second period assist.

Sean Burke actually played well the first two period before the flood gates opened. He allowed 5 goals on 30 shots in total. Honestly, I don't know what more there is to say right now. The cavalry isn't coming. The deadline's passed and Coleman, Boutin, O'Brien and Dicaire are probably too green to help shore up this club. What's worse than the defense and goaltending though is that the Lightning's forwards are showing themselves to again be incapable of scoring timely goals. Completely incapable. And if you're defense isn't going to be solid every night, you'd better get those timely goals.

70 points with 18 games left and a 4 point lead on 9th place. Is anybody going to step up?

Mark Tobin scored his 26th goal of the season, added a helper, had 7 shots on goal and 8 hits. He was also named first star of the game. Unfortunately, it came in defeat 4-2 at the hands of Baie-Comeau.

OHL

Marek Bartanus was -2 as Owen Sound fell to London 3-1.

WHL

Vladimir Mihalik had an assist and was +1 but Red Deer lost 5-3 to Regina.

Linkopings/Lulea Game One

Linkopings fell 4-3 to Lulea in double overtime in the opening game of their Elitserien playoff series today. Fredrik Norrena stopped 36 of 40 shots faced in 98 minutes of hockey. Shane Willis scored the game opening goal for Linkopings in the first period.

Anton But's line was the second most productive in the Superleague combining for a total of 25 goals during the regular season. Alexei Morozov's line with Kazan was the best scoring 34 goals in total. But finished tied for 7th in the league in points, 9th in goals and 10th in assists,

Vasily Koshechkin finished 2nd in the Superleague in GAA, save percentage and shutouts and was named the best "rookie" goaltender in the league.

Prospects

QMJHL

Quebec topped Rimouski 5-4 in a shootout. Mark Tobin was scoreless, +1, had 5 shots on goal and threw 3 hits.

OHL

Kevin Beech and Sudbury defeated Toronto in a shootout 5-4. Beech stopped 26 of 30 during play before stopping 2 of 4 in the penalty shots.

Chris Lawrence had his 21st goal of the season and a helper, but Mississauga fell 5-4 in overtime to Belleville. Lawrence's 18 goals since joining the Ice Dogs equals the totals from his first two seasons in the OHL combined.

The prodigal son, Marek Bartanus, finally returned from time off due to a concussion but was a non-factor in Owen Sound's 4-3 loss to London. He was even with 0 shots on goal.

Radek Smolenak scored his 39th goal of the season as Kingston crushed Barrie 5-2.

WHL

Vladmir Mihalik was scoreless, shotless and even as Red Deer defeated Medicine Hat 3-2.

Justin Keller was held scoreless but Kelowna defeated Seattle 3-2.

Blair Jones scored his 32nd goal of the season, shorthanded, and added an assist but Moose Jaw fell hard to Swift Current 6-3.
