QMJHL

There were no Lightning prospects in action tonight in the QMJHL.

OHL

Radek Smolenak had 2 goals, his 37th and 38th of the season, and was named 2nd star of the game as Kingston defeated Mississauga 5-4. Chris Lawrence was held scoreless for tne Ice Dogs.

WHL

Vladimir Mihalik was scoreless with an even rating as Red Deer defeated Medicine Hat 3-2 in overtime.

Blair Jones had 1 assist as Moose Jaw fell to Brandon 6-4.

Justin Keller was held scoreless but was +2 as Kelowna beat Kootenay 3-1.

Norm Milley was placed on waivers today, likely with a view towards sending him back down to Springfield who once again played a man short.

Jonathan Boutin stopped 27 of 32 in the loss. Zdenek Blatny, who has been everything advertised and more since coming to the Falcons in exchange for Brian Eklund, had 2 goals and 3 points for Springfield. Gerard Dicaire also had a helper on the night.

Elitserien Playoffs Begin This Weekend

The 8 team field is set and the playoffs will begin Friday in Sweden's top league. Fredrik Norrena, Andreas Holmqvist, Shane Willis and Linkopings' playoff run will begin Saturday against first round opponent Lulea.

There were no games in the CHL last night, hence no update for 3/6.

QMJHL

Stan Lascek had a pair of assists as Chicoutimi defeated Rimouski 3-1. Mark Tobin was scoreless for les Oceanic but did manage 7 shots on goal and 9 hits in the contest.

OHL

There were no games in the OHL tonight.

WHL

IN PROGRESS: Late in the third, Vladimir Mihalik is scoreless and -1 but Red Deer leads Calgary 4-3.

You know things are bad when the team that rides the short bus to the game (alright, that's an unnecessary cheap shot) manages to steal a point from you.

John Grahame stopped 24 of 27 before beating M.A. Fleury in the shootout 2-0 on successful attempts by Richards and Prospal. Congratulations to Darren Reid on his first NHL point, a secondary assist on the first of Dan Boyle's two goals. Ryan Craig later got a helper on a Dimitry Afanasenkov marker.

Craig led the rookies in ice time with 18:30 but did not manage a shot on goal. He was +1. Paul Ranger was +2 in 17:40 with 1 hit. Nick Tarnasky was even with 1 shot in 5:37. Darren Reid was +1 in 5:21 with 1 shot and 1 hit. Norm Milley was a scratch and Evgeny Artyukhin served the first game of his two game suspension for El Kabonging a Senator with his own helmet.

Koshechkin Grabs 18th Win

Lada Togliatti defeated Chekhov today 4-1 to hand Vasily Koshechkin his 18th win of the season. His record improves to 18-13-6 overall. The average age of the team iced today by Lada: 22.44 years old. There is just one tour remaining on the Russian regular season schedule.

Ramo Shuts Out KalPa

As the SM-liiga regular season continues to wind down, Karri Ramo tried to make a case for playing time in the playoffs as he shut out last place KalPa 4-0 today. The young netminder made 32 saves to improve his record to 9-7-3 this season. Ramo is currently 5th in the league with a .933 save percentage and 6th in GAA with a 2.03 GAA. There are now four games remaining for HPK in the regular season.

Elitserien Regular Season Ends With a Loss For Norrena

Fredrik Norrena and Linkopings fell 2-0 today to #1 seeded HV71 in the regular season finale for both teams. Norrena stopped 25 of 27 shots faced in the loss. His final record was 19-11-5 this season with a .914 save percentage (7th Elitserien), a 2.16 GAA (T-4th Elitserien) and 4 shutouts (T-4th Elitserien).

I don't care if there are extra r's in Greenville's name. Stupidest team name in professional sports, bar none.

Johnstown coughed up a third period lead to come away empty handed. Morgan Cey stopped 38 of 41 shots faced in the loss. Dennis Packard scored both goals for the Chiefs on a pair of primary helpers by Zbynek Hrdel.
