Game Night 11/1: Thrashers at Lightning

Very disappointing outcome for a Lightning team that could've gone a long way towards burying a division foe by running their record to 3-0 head to head.

ATL-6
TB-4

I continue to be amazed at the trust being earned by young Paul Ranger. 17:12 of ice time tonight was just 3 seconds less than veteran Darryl Sydor. Granted, Sydor hasn't been a pillar of strength this season, but it shows how well the young defenseman is meshing into the defensive corps already. Ranger was +1 with 1 shot on goal for the game. Tarnasky and Artyukhin played a very sparing three and a half minutes each. Tarnasky had 2 shots on goal and R2 had 3 hits, so they made the most of their limited time. Still, it seems to me the clock is ticking for the Lightning to make a decision about their lower lines.

Springfield has a game tomorrow night so if Feaster is going to make a roster move word should come down pretty soon. In my opinion, developing players like Tarnasky and Artyukhin aren't well served playing 4 minutes (or less) a night for long periods of time. It's especially troublesome given the team's cap condition. So, to me, either there needs to be a commitment from Tortorella to play one or both of these players more that grows from the outright statement that they have won Cibak or Dingman's spot on the team (and that Feaster will bite the bullet and send one or both of those vets down and through waivers), or Tarnasy and R2 need to rejoin the Falcons.

Game Day 10/30: Phantoms at Falcons

Rare is the time you only manage 19 shots on goal and still win a hockey game, but Springfield found a way tonight.

PHI-2
SPR-3

Gerald Coleman wins his first game as a professional stopping 24 of 26 shots faced. Multi-point nights for Ryan Craig (first star), Ryan Vesce (second star and GWG) and Jason Jaspers. Todd Rohloff finally returned from injury and made a huge difference for the team defensively as he was paired with rookie Jay Rosehill. Both players received praise from Assistant Coach Russell after the game. No doubt the Falcons needed this win as they move into a more road game laiden portion of their schedule.

It wasn't a shutout today for Vasily Koshechkin, but it was another victory as Togliatti defeated KHK MVD 3-2 in overtime. It was just the second time in his six seven starts since assuming the top spot in Lada that Koshechkin has allowed more than one goal in a game. Koshechkin improved his record to 6-2 as a starter allowing just 7 goals overall in the role.

The morning after edition...

JHN-2
TOL-6

Jonathan Boutin stopped 35 of 40 shots faced before being pulled for the extra attacker which led to Toledo tacking on an empty net goal. Zbynek Hrdel had a power play goal as did John Toffey, his first as a pro. Brandon Elliot tacked on an assist on Toffey's talley. Brady Greco played a very chippy game with penalties that included a double minor for elbowing, fighting, instigation and high sticking.
