The much anticipated Rookie Camp expected this summer at the Brandon Ice Sports Forum has been scaled back. It is not expected to be a full week open to the public as it was in 2002. A series of "evaluation" skates have been scheduled for three days over the last week of July. Ice will be prepared inside the St. Pete Times Forum before July 26th. More details regarding participants forthcoming.
As there has been no public announcement yet, please refrain from posting this on the various message boards we all frequent. Thanks.

With today's expected signing of LW Afanasenkov, along with LW Prospal and LW Craig (to be signed), seems like we need to find some scoring help from the left side for the third/fourth lines. We have some depth at center and RW position, but LW a question. Depth Chart shows Blatny and the next guy in line, but seems like we need help there as Blatny may or may not be the guy. Ideal if we could move Burke's salary and pickup LW scorer. Looks like 'D' is now in-place - how bout some more 'O'.

The Lightning have re-signed winger Dimitry Afanasenkov to a one-year deal worth about $738,000. The one-year deal is Afanasenkov's qualifying offer. The Lightning will likely start with Afansenkov on a scoring line this season after the departure of Fredrik Modin in the Marc Denis trade.

The NHL has released its regular season schedule and the Lightning will be opening October 5th on the road in Atlanta. The unbalanced schedule features a very Southeast Division heavy first month to the season which will include three matchups with defending champion Carolina and two matchups each with Atlanta and Florida as well as a game against Washington.
The AHL's schedule is yet to be set, but the Springfield Falcons have already announced their home opener will take place October 20th.
