Ryan Munce was selected in the 10th round, 186th overall, by the Sarnia Sting in the 2001 OHL Priority Draft out of the Markham Islanders. In 2002-2003 he made his OHL debut for Sarnia going 15-7-0 with 3 shutouts, a 2.64 GAA and a .916 save percentage. For his efforts, Munce was named to the CHL All Rookie Team and won the OHL's "Dinty" Moore Trophy for the rookie goaltender with the best GAA. In the playoffs the young netminder went 1-1 with 1 shutout, a 3.22 GAA and .919 save percentage. Later that year Munce earned a gold medal with Team Canada in the 2003 U18 World Junior Championships where, in 6 appearances, Munce posted 2 shutouts, a 1.83 GAA and a .938 save percentage. Heading into the draft, Munce was ranked the 3rd best goaltending prospect in North America by NHL Central Scouting, one spot ahead of Jonathan Boutin. At the draft, Munce was selected in the 3rd round, 82nd overall. In 2003-2004, Munce returned to Sarnia and went 28-21-4 with 2 shutouts, a 2.94 GAA and a .914 save percentage and was named to Team OHL for the CHL's Canada/Russia Challenge. Professional Career
The Los Angeles Kings signed Munce in the summer of 2005 and he made his professional debut with Bakersfield of the ECHL where he went 30-18-5 in his rookie season with a 2.78 GAA and .919 save percentage. In the playoffs for the Condors Munce was 5-5 with a 3.36 GAA and .889 save percentage. The young goaltender spent half of the 2006-2007 season with the Kings' affiliate Reading of the ECHL before being recalled to play the role of backup for Manchester of the AHL. Munce did not play a game at the AHL level before being traded to the Lightning for a 2008 4th round pick.
