TAMPA BAY â€“ The Tampa Bay Lightning have agreed to terms with free agent forward Antti Miettinen to a two-year, one-way contract today, Vice President and General Manager Steve Yzerman announced.
Miettinen, 6-foot-0, 190 pounds, appeared in 20 games with Ak-Bars Kazan of Russiaâ€™s Kontinental Hockey League this season, recording two goals and eight points. He last appeared in an NHL game as a member of the Minnesota Wild during the 2010-11 season when he registered 16 goals and 35 points in 73 games played. He also tied for the team lead that year in power-play goals with eight and game-winning goals with four.
A native of Hameenlinna, Finland, Miettinen has skated in 472 career NHL games with the Wild and Dallas Stars. He has amassed 89 goals and 212 points throughout his NHL career. His best season came in 2008-09 when he recorded 15 goals and a career-high 29 assists for a career-best total of 44 points. The following season, in 2009-10, he put up a career-high goal total of 20 to finish fourth on the team in that category. In addition, he has played in 24 career Stanley Cup Playoff games, all with Dallas, notching two goals and five points with 10 penalty minutes.
TAMPA BAY â€“ The Tampa Bay Lightning have re-signed defenseman Victor Hedman to a five-year contract through the 2016-17 season, Vice President and General Manager Steve Yzerman announced today.
â€œWe are extremely pleased to announce that we have agreed to a five-year contract with Victor,â€ Yzerman said. â€œHe has shown tremendous growth as a player in just more than two seasons in the NHL while also becoming a key member of our team. The Tampa Bay Lightning signed left wing Ondrej Palat to a three-year, entry-level contract today, Vice President and General Manager Steve Yzerman announced.
Palat, 6-foot, 174-pounds, was drafted by the Lightning in the seventh round, 208th overall, of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft. He is the first prospect from his Lightning draft class to sign a pro contract. He is also 20, which is 18 months-to-two-years older than the others in his class.
(Norfolk Admirals press release) The Tampa Bay Lightning, NHL parent club of the Norfolk Admirals, signed defenseman Daniel Milan to a three-year, two-way contract today, Lightning Vice President and General Manager Steve Yzerman announced. Milan is currently attending the Lightning's training camp.
Milan, 6-foot-3, 194 pounds, skated in 68 games last season with the Moncton Wildcats of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, recording 14 goals and 38 points. He led all Moncton defensemen in goals and also ranked first among all QMJHL rookie defensemen in points. His eight power-play goals were good for fifth among all Wildcats skaters. In addition, Milan appeared in five QMJHL postseason games, registering a goal and an assist. Following the 2010-11 season, Milan was honored as Monctonâ€™s Rookie of the Year after breaking the clubâ€™s scoring record for first-year defensemen.
