The college hockey holiday tournaments are underway....

Mike Lundin had an assist in Maine's 8-4 win over Western Michigan to open the Florida College Classic in Estero. He finished with an even rating in the game. It was the defensemen's 7th assist and 9th point of the season. The Black Bears face Cornell in tonights matchup.

Art Femenella was scoreless with 4 penalty minutes in Vermont's 3-0 win over Rensselaer in the Sheraton/TD Banknorth Catamount Cup Tournament. Femenella has compiled 28 PIM in 9 games this season. The Catamounts host St. Cloud State this evening.

John Wessbecker was scoreless and even in UMASS' shootout loss to Ferris State in the Dodge Holiday Classic in Minneapolis. Regulation ended in a 1-1 tie before the Bulldogs won the shootout 3-1. The Minutemen take on Alabama-Huntsville tonight.

Kevin Beech allowed 6 goals on 18 shots in Sudbury's 6-2 loss to the Bartanus-less Owen Sound Attack.

Chris Lawrence was +1 in Mississauga's 8-4 win against Toronto.

Dane Crowley had a power play assist and was -1 as Swift Current crushed Prince Albert 5-2.

Thursday's Superleague Score

Evgeny Artyukhin was scoreless in Yaroslavl's 5-4 overtime loss to Tver. Denis Kazionov did not play in the match for Tver. The younger Kazionov brother is scoreless in 22 games this season.

CHL Game Night: 12/28

Chris Lawrence was -2 in Mississauga's 5-2 loss to Barrie.

Last night, a Vladimir Mihalik-less Prince George fell 4-3 in overtime to Spokane. Mihalik is currently in Sweden playing for Slovakia in the U20 World Junior Championships.

Slovakia Drops to 0-2 at WJC

Slovakia allowed three unanswered third period goals today falling to Sweden 6-3. Lightning prospect Vladimir Mihalik had 1 goal in the game and was +1 with 1 shot on goal. Marek Bartanus was scoreless with no shots on goal in the loss. Now at 0-2, Slovakia's medal round chances are on life support heading into a matchup Saturday against Team USA. The Americans were mentioned among the pre-tournament favorites but have also fallen to 0-2 early in the tournament and will be just as desperate as the Slovaks to get a victory to try and salvage their medal round hopes.

Vasily Koshechkin improved his record to 13-8-3 helping Togliatti defeat Novokuznetsk 4-1.

Anton But was scoreless as Khabarovsk shut out SKA 2-0.

Alexei Glukhov was scoreless in Cherepovets' 3-1 win over Salavat Yulayev.

Slovakia Loses WJC Opener

Germany continued their great start to the U20 WJC's today knocking off Slovakia 4-2 after defeating Team USA less than 24 hours prior. Lightning prospect Marek Bartanus registered an assist on the Slovak's second goal. Counting Slovakia's two exhibition tune ups Bartanus now has 1 goal and 2 points in 3 games since heading over to Sweden for the tournament. Bartanus has assumed a regular spot on Slovakia's second line thus far. Bartanus was even with 3 shots on goal in the game. 2005 first round pick Vladimir Mihalik was -1 with 1 shot on goal in the game.

Tuesday's Superleague Score

Albert Vishnyakov and Evgeny Artyukhin were both held scoreless as Yaroslavl defeated Dynamo 3-2.

In a related story, even the colonel who accepted a bribe to let Alex Svitov out of Russia thinks the NHL's video replay system is suspicious.

Dimitri Kazionov missed his second straight game as Kazan beat Omsk 5-3. The elder Kazionov slips to second in scoring among Lightning Superleague prospects at 8 goals and 16 points in 32 games.

Anton But scored the game's opening goal on the power play as SKA crushed Yaroslavl 5-2. Evgeny Artyukhin was scoreless for the Lokomotive in the match.
