Both of Courtnall’s assists were primary helpers, including one on a goal by 2008 Lightning prospect camp invitee Evan Pighin. Victoria next plays Tuesday against Pacific representative Vernon of the BCHL. Vernon defeated Powell River 4 games to 2 to win the Fred Page Cup as BCHL champs. Powell River had knocked Victoria out in 7 games in the Conference Finals. Vernon then went on to sweep Alberta Junior Hockey League champion Grand Prairie Storm 4-0 to reach the RBC Cup. Kingston needed to come out of a four team tournament to reach the RBC Cup. The Dudley Hewitt Cup was contested among Kingston (OJHL playoff champ), the Soo Thunderbirds (NOJHL playoff champ), Fort William (SIJHL playoff champ), and Schreiber (Dudley Hewitt/Central Canada Junior A championship tournament host). After round robin play, Kingston defeated semifinal winner Fort William 4-1 in the championship game.

World Championships Day Ten: 5/3

Johan Harju had a goal and was +1 with 3 shots on goal in 14:25 as Sweden downed Switzerland 4-1.

Steven Stamkos had 1 goal and was +2 with 4 shots on goal as Canada went easy on Norway, winning 5-1. Martin St. Louis had an assist in the match for the Canadians.

Martins Karsums was scoreless in 12:06 as Russia dismantled Latvia 6-1. Vasily Koshechkin suited up for the second time in the tournament for the Russians and served as Alexander Eremenko's backup.

Fargo Drops First of Playoffs; Victoria Opens RBC With Unlikely Loss

N.A. Juniors Playoff Game Night: 5/1

Fargo falls to 7-1 in the playoffs, 1-1 in the Finals ... RBC Cup opens with host Victoria snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.

Elmira Swept in Second Round of ECHL Playoffs

Cincinnati completed a four game sweep of the Elmira Jackals Friday night (5/1), with a Game Four 2-0 victory. Kevin Quick was -1 with 1 shot on goal in the matchup.

Quick finished the playoffs with 1 assist and a -7 rating in 9 games. It remains one of the bizarre contradictions of Quick's career thus far. Quick drips offensive talent, and yet he has rarely found the scoresheet as a pro. Next season it will be critical for Quick to translate his athletic gifts to tangible production in the AHL.

Fellow Lightning prospect Riku Helenius finished the postseason with an 0-1-0 record, a 6.91 GAA, and a .787 save percentage. Ugh. Helenius did a very good job in Norfolk after assuming the starting duties from Karri Ramo and Mike McKenna when Mike Smith and Olaf Kolzig got injured. His ugly two game stint in the ECHL playoffs should probably be treated as an unpleasant speed bump and nothing much more.

World Championships Day Nine: 5/2

Martins Karsums had 2 assists and was +3 with 3 shots on goal in 16:48 as Latvia stayed hot, crushing France 7-1.

Karri Ramo did not suit up for Finland, which lost a shocker to Belarus 2-1 in a shootout. Janne Niskala had 1 goal and 5 shots on goal in 21:46 for the Finns. The game was Niskala's second of the tournament. He has 1 goal and 2 points with a +1 rating, 2 penalty minutes, and 9 shots on goal. He is also averaging 21:11 in ice time for Finland.

Tomorrow could be quite the blood bath, as Norway runs into the buzzsaw, Canada, which has dominated in the tournament thus far.
