NCAA Game Night: 3/2

Ohio State 6 - Northern Michigan 2

The Wildcats dropped game 1 of the best of three series to open the first found of the CCHA Tournament. Dusty Collins was scoreless and plus-1 for the game. Game 2 is tonight at Ohio State.

#16 Massachuetts 3 - #11 Maine 1

Both teams entered the weekend tied for forth in the Heast standings. UMASS pulls two points ahead with the win while Maine hopes to even it up tonight and stay ahead of Vermont. Maine's Mike Lundin was scoreless and plus-1 while UMASS defensemen John Wessbecker was scoreless and even.

The Black Bears are one point ahead of #15 Vermont who dropped their game to UMASS-Lowell last night 2-1, Lightning prospect Art Femenella did not play.

CHL Game Night: 3/2

Brampton 3 @ Mississauga 5
The IceDogs snapped their 3-game losing streak, beating Brampton 5-3 at home. Chris Lawrence scored his 42nd goal of the year on the power play. He was also minus-1.

Owen Sound 3 @ Sarnia 7
Owen Sound outshot the Sting 43-27, including 19-6 in the third period, but the Attack could not win in Sarnia, falling 7-3. Marek Bartanus did not register a point and was minus-1 in the game.

Windsor 5 @ Erie 3
In a battle between the OHL's worst teams, the Spitfires beat Kevin Beech and the Otters 5-3 in Erie. Beech stopped 32 of 37 in the loss. Erie is now 12 points behind Windsor for second last.

Kelowna 4 @ Prince George 2
Although the Cougars are pretty much locked in 3rd in the B.C. Division, it's never good to lose to a team 21 points behind you in the standings in your own barn. Vladimir Mihalik tied for the team "lead" with a minus-3 rating for the night. He did not register a point.

Portland 5 @ Everett 2
Portland was 71, that's right, 71 points behind first place Everett in the standings entering Friday, yet the last-place Winterhawks soundly defeated the Silvertips 5-2 in Everett. Dane Crowley was scoreless and minus-2. Portland was beaten 9-1 by Spokane, who is one spot above them in the U.S. Division standings, earlier this week. The game between Portland and Everett featured a classic WHL brawl with 3 seconds left in the game with both goalies getting involved.

Thursday's Superleague Scores

Dimtri Kazionov did not play in Kazan's 2-1 win against Omsk.

Albert Vishnyakov was scoreless in Dynamo's 2-1 win over Nizhnekamsk.

Anton But was scoreless in SKA's 2-2 tie with Tver. Denis Kazionov did not play for Tver.

Vasily Koshechkin stopped 28 of 30 shots faced in a 2-2 tie with Cherepovets. Alexei Glukhov was scoreless in the match for Severstal. Koshechkin's record moves to 18-13-5 for the season.

ECHL Game Night 3/2: Chiefs at Royals

Another critical loss hurts Johnstown's playoff chances.

Ryan Munce stopped 25 of 28 shots faced in the loss. Grant Jacobsen and Gus Katsuras scored the Chiefs' goals. Doug Andress, Zbynek Hrdel and Andrew Martens had individual assists.

Johnstown's loss drops them back to .500 at 24-24-5. More importantly, Reading gains two points on the Chiefs who are now 4 points out of the final playoff spot in the North Division. Johnstown does, however, hold 1 game in hand on 5th place Trenton and 3 games in hand on now 4th place Reading.

Friday's Elitserien Score

Andreas Holmqvist had a goal and 2 penalty minutes today in Linkopings' 4-2 win over Djurgardens in their final tilt of the regular season. Linkopings leapfrogged into 4th place on the Elitserien table with the victory.

Holmqvist finished 6th on his club in scoring with 7 goals and 28 points in 49 games. Holmqvist also had 54 penalty minutes and with a strong final few games of the season on the team's top pair raised his plus-minus to a solid +5. Last season Holmqvist had 6 goals and 22 points in 46 games with 64 penalty minutes and a +8 rating, for comparison purposes.
