Playoff totals: 18 GP, 3-1-4, +4, 12 PIM

In an interesting twist, it was announced this week that KHK MVD will be merging with Johan Harju's former team, Dynamo Moscow, next season after Dyanmo's main sponsor pulled out to back SKA St. Petersburg instead. Harju has already signed a 1-year deal with the Lightning next season.

Harju Signs With Tampa Bay

The website HockeyExpressen is reporting that the Lightning have signed Swedish forward Johan Harju to a one year contract, estimated to be worth approximately $700,000. Harju, a 2007 6th round pick, exercised an out-clause in his contract to leave Dynamo Moscow of the KHL last week at the conclusion of the club's playoff run. Harju scored 4 goals and 18 points in 55 games with Dynamo this year, which was his first in the KHL.

Prior to his stint in the KHL, Harju was known as one of the most prolific goal scorers in Sweden's top league, the Elitserien. Harju's career season came two years ago when he ranked among the league's leaders with 27 goals and 49 points in 55 games. Drafted as a winger, Harju played most of this season at center, and his versatility will help his chances of making the Lightning in the Fall. Standing at 6'3" and 205 lbs, the power forward has drawn comparisons to Detroit's Johan Franzen. He turns 24 on May 15th.

In related news, Harju's life-long teammate Linus Omark signed a 2-year deal to play with the Edmonton Oilers yesterday. Both players are currently training with Team Sweden for the upcoming World Championships in Germany.

Elitserien (Sweden)
Farjestads 1 @ Sodertalje 3
Riku Helenius, Sodertalje, Win, 29/30, 1.00 GAA, .967 sv%
Season totals: 9 GP, 4-2-2, 0 SO, 2.42 GAA, .923 sv%

Riku Helenius and Sodertalje completed their regular season with a solid 3-1 win against Farjestads. Ex-Kings prospect Yanick Lehoux had a pair of goals in the match. Sodertalje finished 11th in the 12 team Elitserien. They'll now await the start of the Kvalserien till Elitserien relegation/promotion series on March 21st where they'll face some of the best teams from the second tier Allsvenskan. Sodertalje had to play their way into the Elitserien last year, too, so this is nothing new for their fans. The series will run for 10 games until April 11th, so Helenius' season isn't over yet. Thus far though, his decision to jump into Swedish hockey has been successful. It remains to be seen, though, if it's been successful enough for him to have played his way back into the Lightning's plans.
