Lewiston Deals Ward to Cape Breton

The Lewiston MAINEiacs of the QMJHL traded veteran defenseman and Lightning prospect Michael Ward to the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles on Friday. Ward was sent to Nova Scotia with forward Stephen Horyl for a young blueliner, an overage forward and a fifth round draft pick.

Ward, who is likely in his final year of junior, has 4 goals and 13 assists in 35 games so far this year. He moves to a Cape Breton team that is 25-11-1-1 overall and sits 5 points back of first place Moncton in the Atlantic Division.

Ward is a 2007 7th round pick of the Lightning. He drew comparisons to Paul Ranger when drafted, though his offensive game hasn't exploded near as much as Ranger's did in the later years of his junior career. Ward has added more offense to his game this year, though he's known more for his defensive presence.

World Junior Championships (exhibition)
Canada 4 vs. Sweden 2
W Dana Tyrell, CAN: 0-0-0
G Dustin Tokarski, CAN: Win, 8 saves on 8 shots in half a game

I'll let the Canadian Press intro this:

> The biggest statement in the battle between John Tavares and Victor Hedman was made by Dana Tyrell.

While the rock-solid forward won't supplant either of those players as the top pick in next year's draft - Tyrell signed a three-year contract with Tampa Bay last week - he made the biggest impact on Friday night.

Literally.

White 6 vs. Red 3
W/C Dana Tyrell, Red: 0-0-0
G Dustin Tokarski, White: 18 saves on 20 shots

Tokarski performed well after replacing division rival Chet Pickard at the halfway point of the game. He would allow John Tavares' second and third goals of the game.

Tyrell lined up on a checking unit with big Rimouski center Patrice Cormier (New Jersey) and Atlanta prospect Angelo Esposito. Known as a scorer for the Montreal Juniors, TSN reported Esposito was being tried in a two-way role next to shut-down expert Cormier and the defensive savvy Tyrell.
