AHL Game Night 11/4: Sharks at Falcons

Maybe the best game of the year for the Falcons?

Sean Burke stopped 21 of 23 shots faced for the win to move to 2-3-0 on the year. The Falcons outshot Worcester 37-23 in the game. The birds were led by a pair of goals by recent PTO recall and long time Johnstown Chief Jean Desrochers and Doug O'Brien who had a two helpers in the game. Desrochers' talleys were the first two AHL goals of his career. Veteran Norm Milley scored the game winning goal and Zdenek Blatny, Marek Kvapil and Eric Healey had individual assists.

Desrochers and Milley were the game's first and second stars, respectively.

The Falcons are now 4-6-0 on the year with an opportunity to have a winning weekend if they can defeat the Lowell Devils in Lowell tomorrow, which is a tall order considering how badly the Devils outplayed the Falcons the last time the two teams met.

AHL Game Night 11/3: Americans at Falcons

How about not falling behind 3 goals to start the game for a change?

Karri Ramo allowed 3 goals on 10 shots for the loss before being pulled for Jonathan Boutin who allowed 2 goals on 24 shots for the loss. Credit to the Falcons for battling back and making a game of this one against a very good Rochester team, coming within just 1:19 of stealing a point, but have mercy, how about not playing from half a mile behind for a change?

Justin Keller led the way for the Falcons with a breakout night scoring his first AHL goal and adding three, three, three helpers and was named second star of the game. Dan Cavanaugh also chipped in a pair of helpers as the Birds' checking line slowly emerges from it's October long slumber. The Falcons' other goals were scored by rookie sensation Blair Jones, veteran Eric Healey, and the long invisible in this early season Darren Reid. Jay Rosehill checked in with an individual assist which was his first point of the season in the AHL.

Falcons Recall Smolenak, Boutin and Waugh

The Springfield Falcons have announced the recall of LW Radek Smolenak, G Jonathan Boutin and D Geoff Waugh from Johnstown of the ECHL. In addition, the team has reassigned LW David Spina to Johnstown of the ECHL.

Through 6 games in Johnstown this season Smolenak has 2 goals and 6 points with 6 penalty minutes and a -4 rating. A 3rd round pick in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft, Smolenak was rated the 9th best prospect in the organization in Bolt Prospects' Preliminary Rankings for 2006-2007. Boutin expectedly returns to the Falcons after going 0-2-0 in the last week with a 3.07 GAA and .919 save percentage. Waugh, who just recently cleared up work visa issues which had plagued him after strong showings at Lightning and Chiefs camps, was even in 2 games played with the Chiefs with 2 penalty minutes.

Bolt Prospects Prospect of the Week: 10/23-10/29

So which member of the Falcons #1 line do you think we picked?

Retraction: Deveaux and Rosehill

Apologies to our readers but Andre Deveaux and Jay Rosehill have not been sent down to Johnstown of the ECHL. It helps when I actually read the link I'm posting to. My bad.

AHL Game Day 10/28: Falcons at Devils

Missed opportunity.

Sean Burke stopped 34 of 38 shots faced in the game for the loss. Blair Jones scored the Falcons' only goal on assists from Norm Milley and Eric Healey. In a worrying development, prospect Andy Rogers and veteran Zdenek Blatny were scratches for the Falcons.

The Falcons miss an opportunity to improve to .500.
