Barberio Suspended
Submitted by chad on January 5, 2010 - 15:06Today the QMJHL announced that Lightning prospect and Moncton Wildcats defenseman Mark Barberio has been suspended one game for spearing an opponent during last Sunday’s game against the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles.
According to the league, the decision was made after reviewing a videotape of the incident and after consulting all concerned parties.

Barberio scored the game’s opening goal on the power play. He has begun to find the back of the net more frequently recently, though he’s got a ways to go to reach last year’s career high of 15 goals. Barberio began his QMJHL career with Cape Breton in 2006-2007, but was traded after 41 games.

Zador gave up at least five goals for the third straight game, and as a result was pulled for the third straight game. Kevin Bailie, who played the last game for Oshawa, relieved Zador, but gave up three goals on five shots. DeCoste, on the other hand, remains hot, scoring for the second straight game. He’s within two of his career high for goals in a season (15), set last year with Brampton and Sault Ste. Marie. DeCoste's goal came against Zador.

The Sea Dogs scored twice in the third period to erase a 3-1 lead. Barberio’s plus-15 rating still leads the club. Barberio (pictured) had nine points in 11 December games for Moncton.

Mark Barberio tallied a first period power play goal to help the Moncton Wildcats ring up a 3 for 6 night with the man advantage and defeat Bathurst 4-3. Barberio added an even strength assist in the 2nd period before finishing the night with 6 of the Wildcats 35 shots.

Alex Hutchings and the Barrie Colts resumed OHL play after the holiday break with a bang as Hutchings rung up a hat trick while earning FIRST STAR honors as the Colts defeated the Kitchener Rangers 7-4 Tuesday night. It was Barrie's league-leading 30th win in 35 contests on the season.

Mark Barberio scored the Wildcats' 5th goal of the opening period with less than a minute left before intermission. Moncton would double that score to 10 behind 40 shots as they opened the post-Christmas schedule on the road in Halifax.
