ECHL Game Night 2/2: Columbia @ Mississippi

Ryan Munce stopped 26 shots as the Sea Wolves defeated the Columbia Inferno 4-2 Saturday night. Munce was named the game's Third Star capping his 13th win on the season. The Sea Wolves, down 1-0 after the 1st, score three 2nd period goals. Mississippi's top line of Marek Kvapil, Ryan Menai, and Jason Tejchma continues to produce as they started the scoring 3:26 into the 2nd frame.

ECHL Game Night 1/31: Columbia @ Mississippi

Ryan Munce stopped 27 shots and Marek Kvapil scored the game winner on a breakaway as the Sea Wolves defeated the Columbia Inferno 2-1 Thursday night. Munce was named the game's First Star while Kvapil earned Third Star honors. It was Munce's 12th win on the season, and it was Kvapil's third goal and fifth point in his first two games back in Mississippi after spending a couple of weeks in Norfolk. Head coach Steffon Walby seems to have found a lethal line combination in Kvapil, rookie and All-Star Ryan Menai, and Jason Tejchma.

ECHL Game Night 1/29: Mississippi @ Pensacola

The Sea Wolves wasted no time putting the 0-3 road trip to Texas last weekend behind them as they scored 7 straight goals against Pensacola, hanging for an 8-5 victory Tuesday night. Marek Kvapil, fresh off a reassignment from Norfolk, earned Third Star honors as he poured in 2 goals and 2 assists. None of the other Lightning prospects assigned to Mississippi were in the lineup.

ECHL Game Night 1/25-1/27: Mississippi @ Texas

Following last Wednesday night's ECHL All-Star game in Stockton, CA, the Mississippi Sea Wolves had the unenviable task of starting the second half of the season with a three-in-three on the road against the ECHL's best team - the Texas Wildcatters. And just like that, all that momentum of a 10-2 January run to the All-Star game vanishes as the Wolves go 0-3 in Beaumont. Ryan Munce gave up 10 goals in two games, bringing the young goalie back to earth after a other-worldly run in 8 games prior to the All-Star event. Brandon Elliott played this weekend for the first time since early December.

ECHL Game Night 1/20: Florida @ Mississippi; Munce Snubbed as All-Star

Ryan Munce gave up 3 goals against the Everblades Sunday night for the second time in a row, but his offense couldn't bail him out this time. Florida outshot the weary Sea Wolves 46-29 enroute to a 3-1 victory, with Munce stopping 43 of those shots to lose for the first time in 8 games. Munce had beaten the Blades Friday night 4-3 on the first of a three-in-three series with Florida, Texas, and Florida.

Munce also received news Sunday night that he had been snubbed for the ECHL All-Star game scheduled for Wednesday night, January 23 in Stockton, CA. Bloody filthy robbery.

ECHL Game Night 1/19: Mississippi @ Gwinnett

Ryan Munce had the night off but former Lightning prospect Morgan Cey made 52 saves as the Sea Wolves outlasted the Gwinnett Gladiators 5-4 as Mississippi's new win streak extends to three games. The Wolves have now won 9 of their last 10 games. Mike Egener and Brandon Elliott remain injured.

ECHL Game Night 1/18: Florida @ Mississippi

Ryan Munce allows a pedestrian 3 goals on 31 shots, but holds on to a 4-3 victory over the Florida Everblades. Mike Egener, injured in his debut game with the Wolves did not play tonight.

ECHL Game Night 1/15: Texas @ Mississippi

After yielding the nets to Morgan Cey for a game, Ryan Munce was back between the pipes Tuesday night and backstopped the Sea Wolves to a 34 save 2-1 victory against the best team in the ECHL. For his stellar play in net against the Wildcatters, Munce earned First Star honors.

Munce is now 10-2 with a 1.97 GAA and 0.948 SV% on the season, leading the entire ECHL in both GAA and SV%. So far in the month of January 2008, Munce is an extraterrestrial 6-0 with a 1.31 GAA and 0.962 SV%. Hard to believe Munce not getting selected to the ECHL All-star game with these kind of numbers.

Mike Egener made his season debut tonight for the Wolves, but was held off the scoresheet.

ECHL Game Night 1/11: Mississippi @ Augusta

Mississippi's season-best 5 game winning streak came to an end last Saturday night at James Brown Arena in Augusta, GA, losing to the Lynx by a score of 4-1. The lost coincided with goaltender Morgan Cey's first start of 2008 after Ryan Munce piloted the Wolves resurgence in the standings. Marek Kvapil was scoreless on 1 shot in the road loss.

ECHL Game Night 1/8: Stingrays @ Sea Wolves

The Mississippi Sea Wolves picked up their lunch buckets and battled out a shootout win over the South Carolina Stingrays Tuesday to extend their season best win streak to five games. Ryan Munce improved to 9-2 on the season with the Wolves stopping 25 shots in regulation and overtime, and four more in the shootout to earn Third Star honors. It is Munce's fifth straight victory. Marek Kvapil had a goal and an assist and scored one of Mississippi's two shootout markers enroute to earning Second Star honors. Kvapil was credited with the game's first goal when a faulty pass from a South Carolina player ricocheted off the skate of Stingrays goalie Josh Johnson and past him to give the Wolves an early 1-0 lead.
