Falcons Report Today

Members of the Springfield Falcons' camp reported for physicals today at 8 am with the bullets flying for real at 9 am tomorrow morning with the first on ice practice. The Falcons still have yet to release their roster for the camp, but their early plans have the club splitting into two practice groups for training camp. The Falcons' first preseason game in Friday, 9/29 against the Hartford Wolf Pack.

CHL Prospects Tonight: 9/23

Bartanupalooza runs wild... Marek Bartanus scored his first goal of the season tonight in Owen Sound's 4-3 win over Sault Ste Marie. Bartanus played well for the Lightning in both Traverse City and Lightning camp despite struggling with the team's conditioning testing and is looking to earn a contract by next summer's signing deadline. [url=dane-crowley]Dane Crowley[/url] helped spark Swift Current to a victory in WHL action with 2 power play assists in the Broncos 3-2 win over Prince Albert. Crowley was even and had 4 penalty minutes in the game.

Saturday's Superleague Score

In a major upset today, Cherepovets bumped off SKA 4-3 in overtime. Anton But had a power play goal for SKA. Alexei Glukhov was scoreless for Severstal. But now takes the lead in scoring amongst Lightning prospects in Russia.

Helenius Makes Another Junior A Start

[url=riku-helenius]Riku Helenius[/url] again appeared for Ilves at the Junior A level as he faced Lukko Jr. A. Helenius backstopped his side to a solid 3-1 victory stopping 25 of 26 to improve to 2-0-0 in Junior A this year. The 2006 1st round pick was named second star of the game. At the SM-liiga level, Boston prospect Tuukka Rask fell 3-2 in OT to HPK. Rask stopped 26 of 29 in the loss.

Second Round of Cuts, Alexeev Update

According to Erik Erlendsson's Blog on the [i]Tampa Tribune[/i] web site, the following players were reassigned to Springfield: D Sylvain Dufresne (SF contract) D Doug O’Brien W Eric Healey W Zdenek Blatny (SF contract) W Marek Kvapil C Blair Jones G Karri Ramo Vladimir Mihalik was returned to Prince George of the WHL without a contract. Mihalik had told the Prince George paper he was hoping for a contract this fall, much like Andy Rogers received last year. Also, Geoff Waugh, who was in training camp on a tryout agreement, was offered a minor league contract and was assigned to Springfield. Erlendsson says Feaster told him he expects to hear back from Waugh’s agent by Monday.
