Greco Undergoes Shoulder Surgery, Three Added to Camp Roster

Also in Erik Erlendsson's blog, defenseman Brady Greco underwent his second shoulder surgery since signing his first pro contract with the Lightning in the summer of 2005 and will be on the shelf 6-8 weeks. Also, the Lightning have invited prospect defenseman Dane Crowley and Falcons contract players center Dan Cavanaugh and defenseman John Adams to their training camp. My own personal sentiment: it's good to see a heart and soul guy like Dan Cavanaugh get rewarded for his hard work.

Lightning Win Seventh Place Game at Traverse City in a Shootout

In their final game of the Traverse City tournament this afternoon, the Lightning prospects defeated the Minnesota Wild's prospects 8-7 in a shootout. With the victory the team finished 7th in the tournament standings with a 1-3 record, although it should be noted the team's three losses were all by one goal including a double overtime defeat at the hands of the New York Rangers' prospects. According to Minnesotawild.com the Lightning almost relenquished another 3 goal lead in the third period just as they did against the Thrashers' prospects on Monday, but they were able to secure their first win of the tournament on penalty shots. Update: Tampabaylightning.com has more on the day's proceedings. David Desharnais leads the way with 3 assists and, hopefully, this isn't his last day in the Lightning organization. Marek Bartanus, who had a pretty solid tournament statistically, had two goals on the game. Desharnais' ex-Chicoutimi teammate Maxime Boisclair finally found the scoresheet with a goal and an assist as did Blair Jones, who had a very solid tournament statistically as well. The player who might've helped his stock the most in this tournament was sniper Radek Smolenak who rebounded from a lackluster rookie camp to be a leading force on the Traverse City team. This afternoon he had a goal in regulation and had the winning goal in the shootout. Clearly the 19 year old is staking a strong claim to one of those scant jobs in Springfield. Karri Ramo must've thought he was back in Lahti for a moment, having faced 45 shots and stopping 38. The Lightning prospects now break camp in Traverse City and, for all of the Lightning contract players and a few invitees, the scene shifts to Brandon for the Lightning's full training camp. For others, like Desharnais, decisions still need to made about contracts and/or invitations to either the Lightning or Falcons' upcoming training camps. Update2: According to Erik Erlendsson's blog, the other Lightning goals were scored today by tryout invitee Todd Griffith and 2005 3rd round pick Chris Lawrence.
