Traverse City Starts Tomorrow

Just a friendly reminder, Friday marks the opening of the Traverse City prospect tournament. At 10:45 am tomorrow the team will hold a practice in anticipation of their 7:30 pm tilt with the New York Rangers' prospects. The Lightning's official roster for the tournament has been posted online and features highly touted Finnish goaltenders Karri Ramo and Riku Helenius. The tournament is the second step on what has become a two month long process to identify and place players in the Lightning prospect system. The tournament has added importance for tryout invitees like David Desharnais of Chicoutimi who are seeking professional contracts in the Lightning organization. Bolt Prospects will have full coverage of the tournament and reaction from the Lightning front office as it all unfolds.

Scores But No Stats

Unfortunately, as of 10pm ET, there are no box scores available out of Russia. Hopefully by the time Evgeny Artyukhin and Yaroslavl finish their match with Omsk, Thursday's scores will be updated online. In the mean time I can give the final scores for the games involving Lightning prospects: Kazan (Dimitri Kazionov)-3 Amur-2 (OT) St Petersburg (Anton But?)-3 Chelyabinsk-0 Tver (Denis Kazionov)-3 Yulayev-2 (OT) Magnitogorsk-5 Cherepovets (Alexei Glukhov)-2 Togliatti (Vasily Koshechkin)-4 Dynamo (Albert Vishnyakov)-3 Omsk, Khimik (Alexander Polushin) and Yaroslavl (Evgeny Artyukhin) did not play Thursday.

Koshechkin 1-0

There's only one official box score up as of now on the Global-Sport official Superleague statistics site, but we can tell you that goaltender Vasily Koshechkin won his first start of the year defeating the Moscow Dynamo 4-3. Bolt Prospects will update all of today's opening match scores as they become available.

The Season Starts Tomorrow

The offseason is short for a prospects site and although Traverse City doesn't begin until Friday, Thursday will mark the unofficial opening of the 2006-2007 season for Bolt Prospects. Tomorrow the Russian Superleague will get underway with a large slate of games, Friday the Lightning prospects will play the Rangers prospects at Traverse City while the Czech Extraliga hits the ice and a week from tomorrow the Finnish SM-liiga gets underway. Be sure to check Bolt Prospects for regular updates throughout the year.

Tim Taylor Named Captain

The Tampa Bay Lightning have announced that Tim Taylor will be the next captain for the club. Vincent Lecavalier and Brad Richards will wear the "A's" as assistant captains. Lecavalier, Taylor, and Fredrick Modin wore "A's" last year after captain Dave Andreychuk was waived. Modin has since been traded to Columbus.
