Elitserien Game Day: 10-1-11

Elitserien (Sweden):
Timra 4 @ Lulea 1
Johan Harju, Lulea, 0-0-0, E, 0 PIM, 0 SOG
Season totals: 7 GP, 4-2-6, +2, 0 PIM

Oscar Hedman, older brother of Lightning d-man Victor Hedman, had a power play assist for Timra in their 4-1 win over Lulea. Lulea faces Linkopings on Tuesday.

North American Juniors Game Night: 9-30-11

QMJHL

Gatineau Olympiques 2 @ Val-d’Or Foreurs 5

D Adam Janosik, GAT: 0-1-1, -2, 0 PIM, 4 SOG, 1 Hit
Season Totals: 3 GP, 0-3-3, -3, 5 PIM

Janosik’s power play assist gave him three helpers in three games. Gatineau was down 3-0 by the mid-way point of the game and had to play catch-up all night.

Moncton Wildcats 1 @ Quebec Remparts 5

D Daniel Milan, MON: 0-1-1, E, 0 PIM, 5 SOG, 0 Hit
Season Totals: 2 GP, 0-1-1, E, 0 PIM

Milan and the Wildcats played on the same rink the Lightning practiced on earlier in the day. Patrick Roy’s Remparts skated to an easy 5-1 win Friday night. Milan had his first point of the season in his second game. Moncton was already down 5-0 at the time, unfortunately. The Lightning are in Quebec City to play the Canadiens Saturday night.

OHL

Sudbury Wolves 2 @ London Knights 8

C Vladislav Namestnikov, LDN: 0-0-0, -1, 0 PIM
Season Totals: 3 GP, 1-1-2, -1, 2 PIM

This is hard to understand. The Knights have scored eight goals in two of their three games this season, yet of those 16 goals, Namestnikov has only one assist toward the total. The good news for London is they’re getting it done without the first rounder’s offensive production. There’s enough talent around him that Namestnikov should have a big season. Finishing on the minus side of even in an 8-2 win is not going to help much. Second year player Ryan Rupert (2012) had a hatter for London.
0-0-1

Owen Sound Attack 3 @ Mississauga St. Michael’s Majors 5

D Geoffrey Schemitsch, OS: 0-1-1, -1, 2 PIM (holding)
Season Totals: 5 GP, 0-2-2, -1, 4 PIM

Schemitsch had an assist for the second straight game, but his Owen Sound Attack fell in a rematch of last year’s OHL championship won by the Attack. The Majors, last year’s Memorial Cup hosts, got the better of Owen Sound in the Cup tournament and finished runner-up to St. John last May. Leafs 2011 first rounder Stuart Percy had two goals for the Majors.

AHL Preseason Game Night: 9-30-11 Admirals at IceCaps

Late collapse.

NOR-2
STJ-5

Jaroslav Janus allowed 4 goals for the loss.

First Period
NO SCORING

Second Period
NOR 2:44 Johnson
STJ 19:08 Matte, (Melichiori)

Third Period
STJ 8:30 Murray
NOR 14:57 Smith
STJ 17:36 Lampe, (Redmond)(PP)
STJ 18:05 Redmond (PP)
STJ 19:19 Armstrong (EN)

The star of these two preseason games for the Ads was Tyler Johnson, who had a couple of helpers and a goal over the past two nights. You don't score a ton like this young man did in the WHL without having some idea how to play the game. It wouldn't shock me in the slightest to see him put up a 20+ goal 50+ point rookie campaign.

European Game Day: 9-30-11

SM-liiga (Finland):
JYP 5 @ HIFK 2
Riku Helenius, JYP, DNP
Season totals: 0-3-0, 0 SO, 3.10 GAA, .888 sv%

Ex-Lightning forward Eric Perrin had a helper in JYP's 5-2 thumping of HIFK. HIFK features former Lightning draft picks Eero Somervuori and Erikki Rajamaki, who were both scoreless in the match. JYP leaps out of the basement over 3 teams into 11th on the SM-liiga table with the win. They face SaiPa on Tuesday.

KHL (Russia):
Spartak Moscow 2 @ CSKA 1 (SO)
Nikita Kucherov, CSKA, 0-0-0, -1, 0 PIM, 0 SOG
Season totals: 7 GP, 0-0-0, -2, 2 PIM

Why do I hate it when 18 year old Russians stay in the KHL rather than coming to North America to develop? This is why. Nikita Kucherov was scoreless and -1 in a sparing 4:59 of ice time in CSKA's 2-1 shootout loss to Spartak. Young players need to play to get better. Period. CSKA faces Novosibirsk next on Sunday. Here's hoping Kucherov actually gets some ice time.

MHL (Russia Jr.):
Chelyabinsk Jr. 5 @ Togliatti Jr. 6 (SO)
Nikita Nesterov. Chelyabinsk Jr., 0-0-0, -1, 0 PIM, 2 SOG
Season totals: 10 GP, 4-4-8, +10, 10 PIM

Nikita Nesterov was scoreless in Chelyabinsk Jr.'s 6-5 shootout loss to Togliatti Jr. Chelyabinsk Jr. plays Yaroslavl Jr. next Friday.
