Andreas Holmqvist is finding that his new promotion to the first pairing in Linkopings suits him. After notching his first point of the season in the club's last game, Holmqvist today notched his first goal and first multi-point game as Linkopings defeated MODO 4-1. The defenseman scored a power play goal early in the second period to knot the game at 1-1 and then assisted on Linkopings' final goal, a talley by Jussi Tarvainen, early in the third. Holmqvist now has 3 points in 5 games this season. Goaltender Fredrik Norrena stopped 23 of 24 shots faced to go to a perfect 5-0 on the season.

Justin Keller and Chris Lawrence both continued their point streaks in CHL action Wednesday night. Lawrence, a center for Sault Ste. Marie, scored a point in his fifth straight game - an assist in a 4-3 loss to Sarnia. Meanwhile, Justin Keller of the Kelowna Rockets scored a goal in his third straight game as Kelowna shutout Prince Albert 3-0. Keller also had an assist and a plus-one rating for the contest, good enough to be named the game's second star.

Lightning prospect Johan Hagglund scored his first point of the season today in a 4-1 loss to Rogle BK. The IK Oskarshamn left wing has been primarily playing on the 2nd line for his new club. Hagglund, who was selected in the 4th round in the 2000 draft by the Lightning, played last season with Hammarby which is also in the Swedish Alsvenskan.

Matt Smaby was named team captain by his teammates this week. "I think he's a guy who has a natural presence to him," Coach Dave Hakstol told [i]The Herald[/i]. "I think this is good timing for this kind of a step for him. He's been a leader on teams before and I think he's ready to be a captain at this level."

Andy Rogers returned to the Prince George lineup Tuesday night and promptly notched a power play assist in a 4-1 Cougars win over Kamloops. Rogers, who scored 2-9-11 last year in 48 games with Prince George and Calgary, got the second assist on the fourth Cougar goal. In other action Tuesday night, Vladamir Mihalik and the Red Deer Rebels beat Swift Current 2-1 in a shootout for their second victory of the year. Mihalik had an even rating for the game.
