Canada crushed Czech Extraliga club Sparta Praha today to secure a spot in the tournament final tomorrow. Led by former Lightning player Glen Metropolit's four assists, Canada easily won 8-2. Andy Chiodo was in net for the Canadians. Former Springfield Falcon Jean-Guy Trudel was named Canada's best player for the round-robin portion of the tournament. For Lightning prospect Morgan Cey, his mop up duty against Elsbaren Berlin looks like it may have been his only playing time in the tournament.

The Springfield Falcons [url=http://www.falconsahl.com/detpages/pressbox2862.shtml]announced the signing today of defenseman John Adams to a professional tryout contract.[/url] Adams, who turned 23 on December 21st, is a former 3rd round draft pick of the Buffalo Sabres who went unsigned out of Hockey East's Boston College before joining the Florida Everblades of the ECHL in this, his rookie, season. A 6'2" 195 pound stay-at-home blueliner, Adams' best college season came as a junior when he posted 3 goals and 10 points in 42 games for the Eagles. With the Everblades, Adams had 1 goals and 7 points in 22 games before signing his PTO contract today. Adams will assume the spot vacated by Anders Eriksson who left Springfield for Magnitogorsk of the Russian Superleague. To make roster room, the Falcons reassigned LW/C Adam Henrich to Johnstown of the ECHL.

Fredrik Norrena was unable to protect a one goal Linkopings lead with under a minute to go as Lulea rallied to tie and then defeat them 3-2 in overtime. Norrena stopped 26 of 29 shots faced in the loss. The defeat drops Norrena to 15-6-4 on the season.

Today, in their third match of the Spengler Cup tournament, Team Canada crushed German DEL club Elsbaren Berlin 6-1. Dale McTavish led the way for the Canadians with 2 goals. Andy Chiodo won for Canada to improve their record to 2-1 for the tournament while Lightning prospect Morgan Cey allowed no goals in late mop up duty.

Novosibirsk defeated Lada Togliatti hadily today by the score of 3-0. The loss drops Vasily Koshechkin to 14-6-3 on the season. Also, this week, goaltender Travis Scott of Metallurg Magnitogorsk finally moved past Koshechkin into first in the Russian Suerleague in save percentage. Anton But also had a helper today as Yarolslavl tied Chekov 3-3. But continue to lead all Lightning prospects in Russia in scoring.
